About UsFairtrade Town

Fairtrade

Tiverton first became a Fairtrade Town in 2008 and achieved this again in 2009 and 2012.

Fairtrade Town Status is awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation to towns which demonstrate that their Town Council supports the promotion of Fairtrade products within the town and uses Fairtrade goods itself whenever possible.
A support group, which includes two Town Councillors, helps to ensure that Fairtrade is kept in the public eye. It's especially busy during Fairtrade Fortnight, which happens at the end of February and the beginning of March each year. Activities have included a Fairtrade Conference for Primary Schools, visits to the schools and Petroc by Fairtrade cotton and chocolate producers, a Fairtrade Fair and stalls and food tastings at Town events.

Fairtrade and ethically sourced products along with locally produced foods are sold in a variety of shops and many of Tiverton's cafes and restaurants serve Fairtrade too.
